Banana Bread Churritos (little churros)
A Mexican Twist on a Childhood Favorite
A Recipe by Lisa-Anna Maust
Based on a recipe by Spoon Fork Bacon
- 1/2 chocolate chip banana bread cut into 1 inch slices
- 1 cup granulated sugar (don't use sugar substitute)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- Canola oil for frying
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream for garnish :)
What you need to do:
Preheat oil to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut each piece of bread into 9 equal cubes (about 1 inch thick). Set aside.
Pour sugar and cinnamon into a shallow baking dish and mix together. Set aside.
Once the oil is hot fry the bites, in batches, for about 3 to 4 minutes. Place directly into the cinnamon-sugar and toss together. Transfer onto a cooling rack and allow to sit for about 7 to 10 minutes.
When ready to serve scoop ice cream into a small bowl. Serve.
Note, this recipe is not for anyone on a diet. It is super addictive and amazing. Make with caution.
A churro is a Latin American snack made from fried dough, cinammon, and sugar. Churro means "fritter" in English.
